The rising star, who loves photography and showcasing the clothes of designers, had her first experience on the runway at a fashion show in Takoradi Polytechnic. The young model who graced that stage in her dreadlocks recalls the loud cheers and applause she got from the audience when she first stepped on the runway. This experience was the spark of her zeal to want to remain and excel in the business. Evelyn had the opportunity to walk twice on that stage, a chance rarely given to first timers.

Evelyn Bentil, who always wants to be unique in her photography, had her first photo shoot session with   Steven Adusei, one of Ghana’s most prolific photographers. The model who has been on three different runways has also had the opportunity to be in photo shoots with Flashmechanics and Grandberry. The challenging part of the career has been with being rejected by designers because of her medium size. The requirements of some designers have just not helped her in landing jobs that would have improved her portfolio. Nonetheless, the young model is not deterred from putting in more hardwork to help her reach the prime of her career.

Ms. Bentil belongs to the Modelkode Agency. Sharing her view in agencies in general, she said that modeling agencies need to be more creative, work more as a team and should come up with more creative photo concepts. “It looks like most agencies are doing the same thing the same way and it is not bringing diversity in the business”, she added. She also advised agencies to come up with different ways of grooming models.

What is your view on sexual harassment in the modeling industry?
The vice is very prevalent in the industry and ladies especially suffer the most. It is not perpetuated by just managers but colleague male models are also culprits. Everyone wants to have a piece of young beautiful models before they offer them contracts.
